Course Description:

The objective of this course is to master the translation of the Qur’an and provide students with a greater appreciation of the Arabic language.

 

A translation of the Qur’an does not provide readers the satisfaction of truly connecting the Arabic verses with its translation. Even with available word-by-word translations, readers cannot engage and appreciate an in-depth connection between the Arabic verses and its translation due to the lack of understanding the Arabic language itself.

 

This course will build and develop that connection for you. At the completion of this course, students will have learned and developed the necessary Arabic grammar skill sets to proficiently and comprehensively translate the Qur’an word-by-word through the recognition of Arabic word and sentence structures with an aid of a Qur’an translation. Students will have the complete satisfaction and joy of independently understanding and connecting the words of Allah (SWT) with any given translation.  

 

Students will learn relevant chapters of Arabic grammar (nahw) and morphology (sarf) and then practically apply them in the Qur’an.

 

Course materials for Arabic grammar will be provided. Students are expected to bring their own Qur’an translation with the Arabic text or a separate Arabic Qur’an. Hard-copies are recommended. Digital translations are sufficient provided the students have a hard-copy of the Qur’an.

 

This course is equivalent to our Term 1: Arabic Language Course.
